The genre is comic fantasy and the story is told from the perspective of three very different characters (farmer, Cai Leman; leader of Oblatref, Meyor Puter Bones; and, Cagwynt schoolhouse mistress, Ona Tames) living in the country of Caputan in a period equivalent to the early Victorian age.
These are strange days in Caputan with talk of revolution in the north, faith leaders from Domonstra trying to exert their influence in the west, academics in Luxatrev trying to guide the intellectual progress of the people, and the Rix’s government in the south trying to maintain control of everything without emptying the coffers.
