For the last couple of years, I’ve been working on a folk horror story – my second novel – under the working title, DON’T LET ‘EM TAKE THE CHILDREN.
Here’s the blurb:
Desperate to prove his mother’s death was caused by a supernatural force that haunts his hometown, thirteen-year-old Ned finds proof that links a missing child with his own mission, and, together with his friends, he sets out to investigate what happened to the boy; but when they uncover the town’s true dark secret, they must find a way to stop an unexpected and dangerous enemy without unleashing a greater evil on the world.
I learned an incredible amount during the development of my first novel, THE MADNESS OF THE FAITHFUL, and as such I felt I had a stronger handle on the overall process this time around. However, as a considerably longer manuscript with a far more complex narrative, writing the second novel certainly hasn’t been easy. But it’s a process I’ve highly enjoyed. I’m a big fan of horror and I really wanted to do the genre justice with this novel.
Anyway, after a lot of work with editors, reviewers and beta readers, I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve signed a contract with the Book Guild, a very reputable and well-established independent publisher to publish DON’T LET ‘EM TAKE THE CHILDREN. The publication date is currently pencilled in for the end of September 2024 – meaning the book will be out just in time for Halloween. It’ll be available in bookshops and at the usual online retailers.
