It’s interesting how we talk about the calm before the storm, but never the calm after the storm. We’ve had a wild few days of weather this week on the coast of Anglesey, with strong winds and an incredible lightning show last night. Today, however, the wind has died down and the heavy rain and thunder have left things peaceful and still. Calm, in fact.
I think about how the storm’s chaos brings this period of tranquillity, and it reminds me of a young child building up to a tantrum. Potential energy accumulates inside until it reaches a critical mass of rage and fury that must be unleashed. But once it has, there follows a period of serenity and relaxation, and all is well. That is where we are today.
The atmosphere feels different and the environment and its elements – the trees, the wildlife, the clouds in the sky – almost seem apologetic, like they want to say, ‘about last night, I’m sorry – I just lost it.’
To me, it feels good. Fresh. We all need to let our hair down once in a while and eliminate the tension; clear the air, literally. Don’t apologize – that squall was needed. Let’s now enjoy the calm (before the storm comes again).
